Black Friday 2009 countdown: More deals, sales, news & tips

According to Consumer's Reports Money Blog, 3% of buyers have already done their holiday shopping. Also on this long weekend coming up, 47% of shoppers plan to make gift purchases, and 1/3 of them say they will be looking for themselves.
On Thanksgiving, Walmart is going to be open at 6 a.m. and stay open all night. The big savings do not come until 5 a.m. on Black Friday.
On Walmart.com, the discounter will announce some items that will be 40% off on Thanksgiving Day. Jayne O' Donnell cautions that even though door busters can be good deals, check Pricegrabber.com to see if it really is a deal. Also, look at how much shipping is because that can make a product much more expensive.
Best Buy will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., JCPenney from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m., Kmart from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Macy's from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Walmart hopes this Black Friday will be much safer than last year. Since the trampling death of an employee, Walmart is trying a number of tactics to calm things down.
The National Retail Federation has created a comprehensive set of guidelines for crowd control. This includes dress rehearsals, and entertainment for shoppers in line.
For buyers hungry for something other than good deals, Ikea is offering a free small breakfast with coffee Friday-Sunday.
Business Week reports that Abercrombie & Fitch is going to mark down its apparel to win back its young customers.
Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic have decided that they are going to be open for 5 hours at noon on Thanksgiving Day.
CNN Money tells shoppers to read fine lines on deals.

  1. I doubt that they will be able to calm the shoppers down all too much, some people get pretty crazy over all the deals. Free food and entertainment should help a little I guess. For the deals, looking online would probably be a good idea like it said. Some stores I can imagine will be trying to take advantage of their shoppers.
